Upgrade the failure that ends your runs. Mobility parts and fuel access come before decoration, storage comes before hoarding, and defenses should preserve movement and sight lines. Community recipe captures document wheels, walls, doors, windows, storage and advanced defenses, but their exact durability, effect and unlock state must be checked in the current Beta.
Priority one: wheels and mobility
Confirm every required wheel is attached and keep a compatible spare when possible. A community recipe reference currently reports a Basic Wheel recipe, while upgraded wheel records may consume a finished base wheel. Read the live workbench before reserving quantities.
Place the spare where it can be reached during a breakdown. Do not attach every wheel-shaped item or sell the last replacement. Test whether the part actually restores movement before calling it compatible.
Priority two: access and storage
Keep the driver seat, exits, workbench, fuel point and attachment areas clear. Add storage when it prevents fuel, ammunition, materials or objective items from being sold or lost. Organize by purpose rather than rarity.
A storage object that blocks movement or hides the burner can cost more time than it saves. Place one, walk the whole bus, and confirm players can use it while the vehicle is in its normal state.
Priority three: walls and openings
Walls, half-walls, doors and windows can shape defense, but each changes visibility and movement. A full wall may protect one angle while hiding an approaching threat. A door is useful only if players can operate it without trapping the route.
Build around likely attack lanes and leave clear firing or escape positions. Do not promise that a structure blocks every enemy; pathing and hitboxes need live testing.
Priority four: active defenses
Community update and recipe references mention an Auto Turret with a separate unlock or offer. Before recommending it, verify purchase state, materials, placement, ammunition or power needs, targeting, team ownership, durability and behavior at checkpoints.
An active defense is an upgrade only when the team can operate and replace it. Do not spend a protected fuel or wheel reserve on an untested device immediately before a hard objective.
Compare upgrade cost properly
Count prerequisite parts, shared materials, unlock cost and the opportunity cost of not crafting another item. If an upgraded wheel consumes a Basic Wheel, include that recipe. If Scrap is shared with walls and utility, total the complete selected build.
Use the Crafting Recipes and Workbench Unlocks pages to keep material cost separate from account unlocks.
Install without collision problems
Hold the part, move to a valid attachment area, clear loose cargo, and wait for the placement preview. Use Z once, then step away and confirm the object remains. Test driver access, doors, sight lines and player movement.
If placement fails, change angle or surface before repeating. Do not assume a crafted object fits every bus variant. Record the vehicle, part and update date for compatibility claims.
Solo versus squad builds
Solo players need a compact layout they can drive, repair and defend without handoffs. Put the spare and fuel near the action path and avoid elaborate structures that consume the whole stop. A squad can separate storage and defense roles but must communicate ownership and departure.
For both, one functioning mobility plan is better than many half-built upgrades. The best build is the smallest one that consistently prevents the observed failure.
Inspect and repair after checkpoints
After every major fight, walk around the bus, check wheels and attached parts, reload defenses if applicable, and return loose cargo to storage. Record which part failed and under what event. Replacing blindly can hide a placement mistake or incompatible component.
Keep the next repair material reserve separate from optional expansion. When a part survives several checkpoints, that is useful evidence; it is not automatically a universal durability number.
Upgrade record fields
Use part name, category, compatible bus, source or recipe, prerequisites, unlock state, displayed effect, installation point, observed durability, repair path, version and verification. Leave numerical fields empty when the live interface does not show them.
Evidence level: bus building is Official. Current upgrade families and priority examples are Community reported/corroborated. Exact stats, compatibility, durability, Auto Turret behavior and “best bus” claims need in-game testing, checked September 18, 2026.
